Our Meet the Team blog series highlights the amazing people behind Moixa. A big thank you to Matt, our Sales Manager, who sat down with us to talk about Moixa, his role, and the exciting projects he is currently working on.
Matthew Barrett, Sales Manager
Matt has been working for Moixa for almost four years, leading the company’s team of Solar and Storage Specialists to sell our range of Moixa Optimised Batteries directly to consumers.
Having always worked in sales roles, Matt now combines his significant experience in sales with strong knowledge of battery systems and the energy sector that he has built up during his time at Moixa.
Before joining Moixa, he worked selling TV adverts for a music channel.
How did you first hear about Moixa?
I heard about Moixa through a recruiter after the company received funding from
Manchester Council to open a new Manchester office.
What made you want to take the job?
The product seemed to make real sense and was something I thought I could really get behind and sell to people.
What elements of Moixa and our business are you most passionate about?
I’d say the customers – being in a relatively early adopter phase, the customers we speak with are genuinely passionate and interested in the product and industry, so the conversations are always really enjoyable.
What happens on a typical workday for you?
There is a lot of work around developing our products and offerings to keep up with a very dynamic industry. I always try to make time to speak with customers and do some selling myself too.
Are you currently working on any particularly interesting projects?
We’ve just finished recruiting trialists for our Balancing Mechanism Trial. Not only will it help us learn more about how we can use our fleet of batteries to help balance electrical demand on the National Grid, but the trialists are also really excited to be part of such an important project.
What has been your highest point since joining Moixa?
I was actually the very first employee in our Manchester Office, so overseeing and being part of the company’s growth – from just me in a room with my laptop to a thriving delivery centre with Sales, Operations, and Customer Service teams – has been amazing.
What is the biggest challenge in your role?
In the grand scheme of things, our technology is relatively new, so many people would rather wait before taking the plunge and investing in something like battery storage. It can sometimes be a challenge in convincing people that now is the right time to buy and join us on our journey today.
What is the most interesting thing you have learnt whilst working at Moixa?
I had never worked at a company of Moixa’s size before so have learned a lot about company growth and how we’ve managed to expand so quickly.
What defines a successful month for you (and your team) at Moixa?
Smashing our revenue targets!
What are the key skills you need to be successful in your role?
A lot of people think Sales is all about the gift of the gab, however, listening is just as important so you can truly understand the person you are selling to and what their needs and requirements are.
If you had a magic wand, what change would you make to the energy industry?
It would be great to have some government grants for battery storage.
What motivates you?
I am very competitive so when we have a target I will do whatever I can to make sure we hit it!
What is the one thing we should know about you that isn’t on your CV or LinkedIn profile?
I got my first ever hole-in-one on the golf course last weekend!
What is one great piece of career advice you have been given?
You can only sell something successfully if you genuinely believe in the product.
What are your top tips for someone who wanted to work at Moixa or in the renewable energy industry?
Go for it! Knowing you are helping the environment as well as being part of a successful company is extremely rewarding.
