In the last few years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of households interested in solar panel installation. Solar panel installation provides a wide range of benefits to homeowners, allowing them to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of a property, whilst at the same time saving money through significantly reducing their annual energy bills.

At Moixa, we also ensure all of our customers are aware that adding solar battery storage to solar panels allows you to not only generate solar energy, but store it for use at the most suitable time. We’ve helped over 1,000 homeowners to maximise the potential of solar power to power their homes for the long-term, making a positive financial and environmental step.

How does solar installation work?

Before the installation is decided, we’ll need to assess your energy usage and property type and determine the ideal system for you in terms of the number of solar panels and the capacity of your solar battery. In terms of the installation itself, our experts will come to your property and install the solar panels, usually on your roof, while solar battery installation will usually be in the home or garage.

Once the installation is complete, the Photovoltaic (PV) cells will get to work, utilising daylight to generate solar energy.

“With the storage potential of a solar battery, you gain even more benefit, as rather than having to use the solar energy at the exact time, you can store some or all of the solar energy produced by your solar panels to use later in the day right when you need it.”

How much does installing solar panels cost?

Firstly, all of our purchase prices include VAT and standard installation, so there are no hidden installation costs that will be added on later.

In terms of a specific figure on how much your solar battery system will cost, each household is an individual case in terms of their energy needs and the corresponding system cost. That is why we will always want to talk through your specific requirements before providing you with a bespoke package and quote that suits your needs. You can either visit our Request a Quote page or call us directly.

Can solar panels be installed on a flat roof?

One question we encounter is whether solar panels can be installed on a flat roof. We appreciate each home has unique installation requirements, so we’ve put together a summary of the key information on this topic.

Do we install solar panels on flat roofs?

Yes.

Is it more expensive?

Yes, there is usually an extra cost per panel for mounting.

What are the impacts of installing on a flat roof?

There are no real impacts of installing on a flat roof.

Does it offer great flexibility to the design of solar panel installation?

You will need a bit more space to install them, as you need a gap between each row of panels. However, you can position them in whatever orientation you want and our team will advise you on the best option.

Does a flat roof installation have any additional benefits?

Sometimes solar panels on a flat roof can be less visible from street level, but you’ll likely fit fewer panels with this type of installation. However, once installed on your roof, you can gain all the same benefits of home solar energy generation.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels?

The simple answer to this question is that planning permission for solar panels was deemed ‘permitted development’ in a change of legislation brought forward in April 2008.

What this essentially means, is that there is no need to ask for planning permission to install solar panels, unless your home is a listed building or located within a conservation area. Even for properties located within conservation areas, there is no definite reason to be worried, as a request for planning permission for solar panels in these cases are still likely to be accepted unless there’s a real and immediate reason not to.

Through our MCS accredited installers, Moixa will be able to advise on the best course of action for your solar panel installation and/or solar battery installation.
