The costs and technology associated with solar energy have continued to improve in recent years, which – coupled with rising energy costs and increased environmental awareness – has seen an increase in the number of households interested in solar panels and solar energy storage. With this in mind, many people want to know ‘how much energy does a solar panel produce?’ and ‘how to store solar energy’.

The amount of solar energy you can expect to generate will vary significantly depending on factors such as the orientation of your roof, your solar panel system size and the number of daylight hours. Still, with this guide, we aim to help you find out more about solar energy, work out the benefits and whether it is right for you. What we can say, is that by installing solar panels and a solar battery at your home, you’ll be able to see a significant reduction in your energy bills, while at the same time reducing your carbon footprint.

How much solar energy does a solar panel generate?

The amount a homeowner can expect their solar panels to generate on an average day takes into account a few key factors. As solar generation is largely seasonal, it is difficult to give figures for an average day, but here are a few pieces of information alongside an estimate for annual production. The first of these is the size of the system that you decide to install at your property.

Our most popular option with customers is to install around 12-14 solar panels, combined with our 4.8kWh Moixa Smart Battery. Aside from the size of the solar panel system you have installed, you also have to consider the orientation of the roof the panels will be installed on and the pitch of the roof, with a south-facing roof and panels at a 35-degree angle maximising the total generation.

“Due to the fact that solar energy generates from daylight rather than needing consistently sunny days, you can generate a certain level of solar energy all year round.”

The amount of energy produced will differ throughout the year of course, with longer daylight hours in summer producing more solar energy than during the shorter winter days. On an annual basis, a 4kWp solar panel system will generate energy equating to:

– around 5,000 hours of washing machine use
– around 90,000 hours of running the fridge, or
– around 1,500 hours of oven use.

Of course, each household is unique in its requirements, so speak to our experts, and we’ll be happy to guide you towards the right system for your home after assessing your current energy usage.

How do I store the solar energy I generate?

Answering the question of how much solar energy you can produce inevitably leads to the question of how to store energy in a solar battery, in order to maximise the possibilities of the energy you generate. At Moixa, we offer various solar battery options that allow you to store the energy generated by your solar panels. So, whilst a solar panel system is powering the home during daylight hours, it can also charge a solar battery.

When the sun goes down, instead of switching back to traditional energy suppliers for all of your energy needs, you can utilise the energy that has built up during the day within the solar battery. This offers great flexibility of use and helps to reduce your energy use and energy bills significantly.

How much can you save with solar and storage?

From the day of installation, you can expect to experience savings, with an average saving of up to 50% on your annual energy bill*. Through a 25-year power output guarantee on solar panels and 10-year warranty on your solar battery, you have the peace of mind of knowing you’re covered for the long-term.

Even better, all solar battery customers have the option of joining GridShare Membership,  which as well as being our way of using solar battery capacity to support a low-carbon, renewable energy powered future, also provides you with an extendable warranty on a 4.8 kWh Moixa Smart Battery for as long as you’re a member.

Households who sign up to GridShare Membership receive £50 every year for the first three years. Moixa also measures and reports on the impact of a smart battery device being used for Grid Services and provides additional reimbursement for any savings lost.
